The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Centre, Aotearoa is a specialised clinic in Auckland, New Zealand catering to the needs of children, young people and adults who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol and may be experiencing a range of difficulties in their everyday lives with learning, behaviour, emotions and relationships. We assess and come to an in depth understanding of strengths and difficulties so that circles of care and support can be wrapped around the individual with FASD and their families to enable them to do well. With diagnosis comes understanding and a way forward using FASD-informed care and management. Individuals with FASD settle and thrive once their brain differences are understood and accommodated.

Our services are built around the needs of the child and family in an understanding that each is unique and will progress differently. Our FASD-informed practices are based in international best practice. We are fortunate to have the wisdom and experience of the hundreds of families we have met over the past ten years to guide us, as well as the extensive resources available from Canada who lead the world in FASD awareness and expertise.

Our Team.

The FASD Centre team are all extensively trained and experienced in the field of neurodisabilities and most specifically FASD. We work collaboratively and formulate all medical and neuropsychological findings to ensure that international best practice is followed in all our work. Dr Valerie McGinn, who is New Zealand’s leading expert in FASD, supervises all aspects of the services provided to the children, young people and adults and their families at The FASD Centre, Aotearoa.
